Invention and Enterprise: Ezra Cornell, a Nineteenth-Century Life
How can the wealth of material found in manuscript collections best be presented to school children and other members of the general public? One possible approach is through an online exhibit. Invention and Enterprise: Ezra Cornell, a Nineteenth-Century Life tells the story of one man's family life in nineteenth-century America, and links that life to important important events in the century's history such as the Civil War, the development of the telegraph, and the founding of Cornell University. In addition, the site links users to over 30,000 scanned pages from letters, diaries, photographs, documents, and publications. A timeline feature organizes the story that is told.
